  • Start, Stop, Restart…

After many attempts at starting(and stopping) to get healthy, in my 40th year I would like to start for the last time.  I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older that I can’t get away with the same eating and exercise habits I’ve had as a younger man.

Eating unhealthy food or drinking now derails my energy and causes brain fog for days instead of hours.  Stress is less manageable in my current career and finding time to manage it effectively has become much harder.

Over the years, I’ve tried all kinds of things including intermittent fasting, keto, meal prep, daily exercise, and more.  While most of these items have succeeded in the short term, I’ve never been able to stick with anything long term and have gained any lost weight right back(and some).

My ability to tackle the kind of adventures I like including hiking, kayaking, biking, and mountaineering has started to suffer due to being overweight and in poor physical shape.  I find myself wondering if I could complete longer hikes and bike rides that previously I could complete without a second thought.

Survival of the Fitness is a brand I’ve used for a few different purposes, but going forward am going to focus on maintaining a healthy & adventurous life into middle and older age. Feeling good and being healthy are very interesting and important to me but seem to always find a way to take a backseat to comfort, stress, and convenience.

Starting today, I am going to chronicle my journey into health, fitness, and adventure.  As a baseline, my weight is 259.2 and my goal for the next 3 months is to lose 10lbs.
